Why does the temperature have an effect on the force of the gas spring?

Gas springs contain gas - and this gas is affected by heat and cold.

The force changes 3.3 - 3.5% for every 10°C change in temperature. Gas springs are filled at around +20°C - and the basic force is determined from those conditions.

Gas springs have to operate in temperatures ranging from -30°C to +80°C - special pressure seals are required if a gas spring is to be able to operate outside of these temperatures. These specially designed gas springs are not standard items that can be delivered quickly.

Gas springs must never be overheated or exposed to open flames.
